Breaking the Fast

>I just finished my last Medora breakfast with my friends Dini, Dwi, and Ricardo. As we sat at the bar with our eggs and hashbrowns at the end of the breakfast shift, I told myself keep it together, Amanda. My Muslim friends broke their fast in order to share a final meal with me before heading back home. I am honored and humbled by their generosity and friendship.

It’s hard to believe that I’ve only worked with them for 3 weeks and yet the love I feel for them seems as though we’ve shared a lifetime. I truly love my Indonesian friends!

I am grateful to God that He allowed me to share a brief moment in time with these wonderful, hard-working, devoted people. They may never know what their expression of friendship, which prompted them to lay aside their religious observance for a day, means to me, but I pray that they might have a similar experience this side of heaven.

What a great way to start the day!
