Book Review: 31 Days of Drawing Near to God

> This is an easy to read daily devotional book by missionary Ruth Myers. As the cover of the book states, it was “previously released as The Satisfied Heart.”

As far as daily devotionals go, this was okay. If I’m going to follow a book or teaching of some sort for my daily devotional time, I like something with a lot more meat involved. I like to think and wrestle and ponder; this left me still hungry. As such, I often read more than one day at a time and finished it well before 31 days.

The author’s narrative for each day ends with a heartfelt prayer–I enjoyed these immensely–and some Scripture references. Throughout the book, Myers quotes many verses using a wide variety of Bible translations. This may turn some off, but I enjoy different translations myself so it seemed natural.

The secondary part of the title is: Resting Securely in His Delight. I think it’s a pretty accurate representation of what this devotional is about if you understand that delight = love.

So while this book isn’t “meaty” it is uplifting. I think this might be a nice book to give away to a female friend as it seems it would appeal more to the female audience than our male counterparts.
