Thank You and No Fluff

>A couple weeks ago I was worrying just a bit about the quality of ministry at our church. I can’t lead worship, so I cut a few Cd’s with some worship songs that seemed to fit the people of the church. So, we 6 sing to the strains belted out of my little “ghetto blaster” from the front of the church, and it would be embarrassing except for the fact that it’s really the best option we have at this point in time. I knew that it was the best I could do so I didn’t get too down about it, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. I just hoped I could make up for it in the sermon portion of the service.

Then, Becky helped me.

Becky, I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but I write this here for all to see. Thank you for encouraging me during a week of doubting. You told me that what you appreciated about church most was that there is no fluff involved. You don’t know how that put my heart at ease and helped me refocus on what it is that I’m doing here. Because, truly, that’s what I love most about our little church too. I like that we come together with no high expectations for others to make us feel good by putting together a good program or putting on a good show. Instead, we come together simply because we’re honoring God by carrying on the tradition in our own lives of attending to the church. I know that not everything is not up to snuff, but we’re also not trying to be something that we aren’t. I love the bare-bones way of doing it, and it does my heart good to know that someone else gets it. And if you get it, and I get it, then I can’t help but think that the others get it too. THANK YOU!
